Introducing the Sonos Sub Mini in Canada!

The Sub Mini is the newest product from Sonos that’s perfect for deepening your enjoyment of music, TV, and much more. If you love bass in sound, the Sonos Sub Mini would be a brilliant addition to your living space, especially if you already own a Sonos Ray, Beam, One, or One SL.

Features

The Sonos Sub Mini offers two Class-D digital amplifiers with frequency response that can go as low as 25 Hz. The dual 6″ woofers are inward-facing, which results in a force-canceling effect. The woofers feature sealed cabinets, which facilitate distortion neutralization and bass response enhancement.

Another highlight of the Sonos Sub Mini is the automatic equalization. Here’s how it works – once the Sub Mini pairs with another Sonos device, the audio settings equalize automatically. So, even if you don’t know much about equalizing audio, don’t worry – the Sonos Sub Mini has your back.

However, if you know your way around sound, there’s no need to worry. If Sonos’ automatic audio equalization does not give you the sound that you want to hear, simply use the Sonos app. From treble to bass to loudness – you can tweak all the settings to your tastes and preferences.

Last but not least, there’s the Trueplay feature. This cutting-edge software solution carries out the measurement of the acoustics of the space where the speakers and woofers are placed. Once it finishes measuring the acoustics, it makes the necessary changes, which results in impeccable sound clarity.

Differences between the Sonos Sub Mini and the Sub

The Sonos Sub Mini, as its name suggests, is the little brother of the Sonos Sub. While the two products do have certain similarities, they are quite different from one another as well.

For starters, the Sub Mini has a cylindrical shape, whereas the Sub looked more like a cube. The Sub Mini comes with a flat top and at its center, there’s a cut-out shaped like a pill. This cut-out helps air to be moved efficiently, which translates to bass maximization. The Sub, despite having a flat top, offers flat sides, which allow owners to place it either vertically or horizontally.

In terms of dimensions and weight, the numbers are not surprisingly higher for the Sonos Sub. However, the weight of the Sub, at around 16 kg, is around 10 kg more than what the Sub Mini weighs. So, as far as portability is concerned, there’s no doubt about it – the Sub Mini is the winner.

On the hardware front, the similarities between the two include the power ports, Ethernet ports, and pairing buttons. To make pairing to Sonos devices easier with the Sub Mini, an NFC features at the Sub Mini’s top. In terms of frequency response, both offer as low as 25 Hz. However, at higher frequencies, the Sub’s size and weight reflect its power.

There are some other subtle differences between the two Sonos brothers. Most notable among them is the Wi-Fi connectivity support, with the Sub offering support for either 2.4 GHz or 5Ghz. The Sonos Sub Mini Canada offers only 5Ghz support.

All in all, it’s fair to say that while the Sub is great for large rooms, for small-medium rooms, the Sub Mini is perfection manifested. Its softer and more compact design along with its high portability and affordability make it the best fit for any small-medium modern-day space.

Sonos Sub Mini Compatibility

The Sonos Sub Mini is compatible with a diverse variety of Sonos products. Among Sonos home theater systems, the Sub Mini can be paired with Arc, Arc SL, Beam (Gen 1), Beam (Gen 2), Playbar, Playbase, and Ray. While the Sub Mini is compatible with the Arc, in larger rooms Sonos recommends the full size Sonos Sub as the Arc can produce higher volumes than the Mini can realistically keep up with.

On the speaker front, the Sub Mini can be paired with Five, One (Gen 1), One (Gen 2), One SL, Play:1, Play:3, and Play:5 (Gen 2).

The device, however, doesn’t offer any compatibility with portable or unamplified SONOS products like Roam, Roam SL, Connect, Move, and Port.

How to set up the Sonos Sub Mini

Prior to setting up your brand new Sonos Sub Mini Canada, take the following steps:

  • Connect your Sub Mini to power after placing it in a location of your choice.
  • Ensure that one of the slots does not have any obstructions facing it. For instance, in case of vertical wall placements, keep the front opening open.
  • If you are simultaneously setting up two devices, i.e. the Sub Mini with another Sonos device, it’s best to set up the other Sonos device first. During setup, the Sonos app provides clear instructions to ensure smooth and seamless installations and commencement of operations across both devices.

If you want to pair your Sub Mini with an already-set-up Sonos device, do the following:

  • Step 1: Open the official Sonos app on your Android or iOS smartphone.
  • Step 2: Go to the Settings tab.
  • Step 3: Once you are in the Settings tab, tap System.
  • Step 4: Go to the Products tab and select the room where you want to add the Sub Mini.
  • Step 5: Tap the Connect Sub option when it appears and keep following the prompts for completing the pairing process.

Do you want to tweak the Sub Mini’s audio settings? If the answer is yes, here is what you need to do:

  • Step 1: Go to the Products tab as directed in the previous section and choose the room you’ve placed the Sub Mini in.
  • Step 2: Next, open the Sound tab and open Sub Audio.

You can manipulate the following audio settings in the Sub Audio page:

  • Reset: This setting reverts all audio settings to their default values. Recommended if you have made too many changes and don’t know what to do to fix the sound.
  • Phase Control: Through this setting, you can engage in phase flipping, i.e. changing the phase of the device audio. Use this setting if you are unable to hear sufficient bass in a usual listening position. However, this setting will remain unavailable to you if you enable Trueplay.
  • Sub Level: This setting offers a slider which you can increase or decrease to change audio volume.
  • Sub: You can turn the audio of the device on or off using this setting.
